What is Character?

Welcome to the Character Council of Indiana, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing about stronger, safer and more unified Indiana communities by encouraging character development in schools, organizations, and families. Community leaders from across Indiana lead this character development effort.

charáacáter (k r k-t r)
The stable and distinctive qualities built into an individual's life that determines his response regardless of circumstances. (American Dictionary of the English Language)

Character is the inward motivation to do what is right. It is who you are, even when no one is watching. Character is also non-evolving. For example, truthfulness is the same today it was in your great grandparents day. The circumstances in which we apply character may change, but the principles of character remain the same. Character is the most accurate predictor of future actions and determines your response to difficult situations. Character is the key to true success in every area of life.

Good character is the inward motivation to do what is right according to the highest standards of behavior, even when no one is watching. Good character is the key to true success in every area of life. Good character transcends age, position, financial status, race, religion, education, gender and personality.
